How to choose a PCB rack in four questions

Answer these and you have your part number. The finder above asks them for you.

How big is the board?

Measure the long and the short edge. Take the smallest rack that clears both, so boards sit square and the rack stays light. Boards narrower than 50 mm (1.97″) need a belt rack, which closes to 10 mm (0.394″).

How hot does it get?

80 °C (176 °F) covers storage, transport and the SMT line. Moisture bake needs a 200 °C (392 °F) rack. Reflow, cure and stress testing need the all-aluminum 300 °C (572 °F) GL HT.

Does it feed a machine?

If the rack loads an SMT line, it adjusts to the board: gear for most lines, belt for narrow and mixed widths, screw clamp when one width runs a whole program. For holding, carrying and storing, a fixed-slot rack costs less.

Is it populated?

Populated, thick or warped boards need room. The GL HT has a 7.5 mm (0.295″) slot and the RA-24 Mini a 7.7 mm (0.303″) deep slot. When parts stand taller than the gap between boards, use every other slot.

What size PCB magazine rack do I need?

Take the smallest rack whose largest board clears both edges of yours. Sizes run from 355 × 250 mm (13.98″ × 9.84″) on the B0103 to 620 × 460 mm (24.41″ × 18.11″) on the B0110.

What is the largest board a PCB rack can hold?

The B0110 racks take boards up to 620 × 460 mm (24.41″ × 18.11″), with gear or belt adjustment. Like every rack, they ship from the US in under 24 hours when in stock.

Which PCB rack can go in a bake oven?

A GM rack for moisture bake to 200 °C (392 °F), or an all-aluminum GL HT rack to 300 °C (572 °F). Standard 80 °C (176 °F) racks stay out of the oven.

Can your rack replace the one I use now?

Yes. Type the part number from your current rack in the finder and it shows ours for the same boards. If yours is not there yet, send it and an engineer matches it, usually the same day.

Are your PCB racks ESD-safe?

Yes, every one. They are conductive, 10⁴ to 10⁶ Ω, so static drains to ground instead of sitting on your boards.

How fast do racks ship?

In-stock racks ship from the US in under 24 hours. When a rack is not on the shelf, the longest wait is 2 to 4 weeks, depending on quantity.

Which ESD turntable do I need?

The D380 has a 380 mm (14.96″) surface and carries up to 91 kg (200 lb). The D500 has a 500 mm (19.69″) surface and carries up to 113 kg (250 lb). Pick the one your assembly sits on.
